The road to success brings forth uncertainty. Some make it and others don’t. This is just the reality of the situation. However, when you begin to analyze those who succeed and those who fail, you begin to notice some major differences. For the most part, some go on to succeed not because they were better or had a greater level of talent, but because they did the right things at the right time.
On the other hand, those who didn’t succeed failed to do the very same thing which led some to success.
For that reason, below are seven steps to success that all successful people take whether they are consciously aware of it or not.
I share this with you so you too can apply these steps to your life.
1. Make a commitment to grow daily
Each and every day you should strive to get better. If you’re not moving forward, in due time you will be heading in reverse.
Either you make progress or you will progress backwards. Keep your car in drive and keep moving. Don’t let up on that gas pedal.
Forget your weaknesses; instead aim to magnify your strengths. Nurture them and grow them.
Read. Read. Read.
Reading is a great way to grow.
When you read, you learn, when you learn, you apply, when you apply, you fly.
So don’t let life pass you by, instead you should aim to leave life behind. Make huge strides forward. Every day wake up and aim to make an impact. Your job is to widen the gap between where you stand and where you stood. Keep increasing that distance and in due time you will reach success.
2. Value the process more than events
It’s the process that makes you successful and it’s the process that is truly the best part.
Don’t worry so much about the end results; instead worry about perfecting the process.
When you can master the process, the results will come.
3. Don’t wait for inspiration
If you only work on the days you feel great, you won’t get much done.
Inspiration is prevalent some days and it’s lacking others, but regardless, you need to continue to bust your ass.
If you’re not motivated, get motivated.
There’s a great quote I heard recently which went something like this…
“Amateurs wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work.”
4. Be willing to sacrifice pleasure for opportunity
Sometimes you have to give in order to get. If you can sacrifice your pleasure today, you can have a ton of pleasure tomorrow. Unfortunately a lot of people pick short term over long term. But if you’re serious about success, you have to think about tomorrow. You cannot get blinded by the illusions that short term gratification brings about.
5. Dream big
You can only go as far as you think you can.
Therefore, you need to broaden your horizons and dream big.
If your dream doesn’t scare you, it’s not big enough.
Every remarkable success story started with a dream.
6. Plan your priorities
A lot of people get working hard confused with working smart. You may be working hard, but that doesn’t mean you’re working smart.
Some people spend their entire life working hard, but they never get anywhere.
Whereas, others work smart and prosper.
As a result, you need to plan your priorities. Figure out what will result in the greatest return and do that first. Usually the tasks that bring about the greatest return are the tasks we tend to put off. But you need to overcome this notion and do those things.
7. Give up to go up
In order to create your new life, you have to sacrifice your current life.
What this means is you have to be willing to sacrifice the pleasures you enjoy today in order to get something much more tomorrow.
You have to be willing to say no to that party. You have to be willing to choose work over watching TV. You have to be willing to trade your current life for something greater.
All successful people work their ass off and trade their current luxuries for greater luxuries. However, those greater luxuries don’t come until you are willing to sacrifice what you currently have.
Therefore, you need to be able to devote your life to success and you will succeed. If you give a half ass effort, you will fail.
All or nothing. Go after your dreams with full force or don’t chase them at all. There is no in between because those who are in between are destined for mediocrity.
