Do You Control Fear or Does Fear Control You?

“Fear is your best friend or your worst enemy. It’s like fire. If you can control it, it can cook for you; it can heat your house. If you can’t control it, it will burn everything around you and destroy you. If you can control your fear, it makes you more alert, like a deer coming across the lawn.” – Mike Tyson

Fear will either make you or break you. It will motivate you to take action, if you let it. Or it will destroy you, if you let it. Fear either works for you or it works against you.

A rule of thumb that I follow is I always strive to do the things that scare me.

If you can face what scares you, you will win…make no mistake about it.

The things that scare you are usually the things that you need to be doing.

The next time you feel fear, ask yourself…

What’s the worst that could happen?

What’s the best that could happen?

Usually the outcome is nothing to sweat over. It’s nothing too bad. The chances of something bad happening are usually very slim. On the other hand, the upside is limitless.

Scared of approaching that cute girl who works at your favorite restaurant? Walk up to her and kick some game.

What’s the worst that could happen?

She says NO, tells you to fuck off, and/or calls her boyfriend to kick your ass. So what? At least you manned up and acted on your desire. If you want to win, you have to act on your desire and not let fear get in the way. That’s true for anything. Whether that be women, success, or life in general. Boldness is attractive. Be bold.

What’s the best that could happen?

She becomes your girlfriend/wife and you go on to live a remarkable life together.

Scared of quitting your job to chase your passion? Quit and run towards the life of your dreams.

What’s the worst that could happen?

You can’t support yourself so you get another job.

What’s the best that could happen?

You find fulfillment. You wake up with a smile on your face everyday because you get to do what you love for a living.

Scared of public humiliation? Purposely do something that brings about embarrassment.

What’s the worst that could happen?

People laugh at you. People mock you. People take pictures. So what? At least you have the balls to live life on your terms. They only mock, criticize, and ridicule you because you’re not like them. You’re not mediocre, you’re something greater. A person who is above mediocrity will always draw attention from the mediocre.

What’s the best that could happen?

You overcome your fear of public humiliation. You stop giving a fuck about what others think or say.

Want to start your own business, but you’re scared you’re going to fail? Take action anyways.

What’s the worst that could happen?

You go bankrupt. So what? Donald Trump went bankrupt four times before he made it to where he is today. Bite the bullet and take action. You’ll never know if you never try. Failure is something we must all endure.

What’s the best that could happen?

You become rich, filthy rich. You never have to work again. Your business goes on to change the world.

As you can see, the upside is typically far greater than the downside.

Show me a person who has never acted in spite of fear and I’ll show you a person who has never lived.

Freedom lies on the other side of your fears.

Act, my friend, act.
