How To Increase Your Happiness

For the most of us, our main goal is to be happy. Although this is a common goal, people tend to pursue it in different forms. For instance, a lot of people feel as if happiness is down the road, happiness lives in the future. They think happiness comes after you acquire or achieve something. But the reality of the situation is this isn’t the case. You can choose to be happy this very moment. Happiness doesn’t come externally, it comes from within.

Although you can be happy right now, you shouldn’t get the word happiness confused with being content.

Being content means you are satisfied with your current circumstances.

Being content leads to mediocrity because it makes you settle in life.

You can never settle in life. You have to keep pushing life to the limits.

Strive to be happy, not content.

Although I stated happiness comes from within, there are some external things you can do this very moment which shall in return make you feel alive and happy such as…

1. Stop doing things you hate, instead start spending time on what you love

A lot of people think happiness comes from doing, but a lot of happiness arrives as a result of NOT DOING.

So with that stated you need to…

Stop leading a life you hate.

Stop hanging out with people who piss you off.

Stop working at a job you despise.

Just stop.

Call it quits.

Life’s too precious to be wasted.

Take charge of your life.

Replace what you hate with what you love.

I recommend you make a list of what adds to your happiness and what takes away from your happiness. After you do so, you should strive to do the things that increase your happiness and eliminate the things that decrease your happiness.

(Now don’t get carried away, there are still going to be small things that you may hate, but you will still have to do in order to succeed in life, but as far as the big things go such as jobs, friends, and activities, you should eliminate the things you hate).

Free your mind.

2. Focus on the present moment

Focus on the now. There is nothing wrong with the now. This very moment is perfect.

Practice stillness.

Don’t dive into your past and don’t take a stroll into your future, just chill and focus on what is before you.

When you do so, you’ll promote inner peace. A lot of the problems and issues that rob our happiness are self created. We focus on what tomorrow is going to bring or what happened yesterday which in return makes us feel like shit or ignites evil emotions such as fear and doubt.

So you need to stop doing that.

You can stop doing that by simply focusing on what is currently on your plate instead of what was on your plate yesterday or what you would like to be on your plate tomorrow.

3. Make more money

I know I said happiness comes from within, but there are other forms of happiness as well.

The main happiness comes from within.

But there are other routes which lead to happiness as well such as money. The happiness that comes with making money is short lived however.

Regardless, if you want to add a touch of happiness to your life, increase your bankroll. Make more money.

Money allows you to buy experiences; these experiences create memories which in return bring about positive emotions such as happiness.

4. Give and practice gratitude

Lend a helping hand. Go out of your way to help someone in need.

Happiness and fulfillment are very closely related and when you help someone, you feel fulfilled which in return leads to happiness.

In addition, instead of focusing on what you desire, think about what you already have. I bet you have tons to be thankful for. If you don’t, just the fact of being alive in such a prosperous time is one hell of a blessing. Be thankful. Life could always be worst.

5. Strive to put the life in life

Give your life meaning. Make your days come alive.

Stop going along with the motions, instead break away from this mindset and instead add color to your days.

When you do, you’ll come alive and will be filled with joy.
