What Jay Z Can Teach You About Success

Jay Z. The half a billion dollar man. Possibly the greatest rapper of all time. Jay Z has accomplished a lot in his lifetime and a lot can be learned from this man. If you are not familiar with Jay Z’s rise to fame and defying all possible odds in order to make it as an entertainer I highly encourage you to read up on his biography or if your really serious I recommend you read his book Decoded
. The book offers tons of insights and really makes one realize that our circumstances are not really as important as we make them out to be and if we really want something bad enough we can get it no matter what the odds are. Jay Z is a prime example of this as he came from a background of drug dealing and a life of crime which he put aside in order to pursue his dreams regarding music. So I recommend you get your reading on and get a copy of his book decoded.

Jay Z offers tons of lessons in his music and now is the time we explore some of these…

“9-5 is how you survive, I aint trying to survive, I’m trying to to live it to the limit and love it a lot.”

If your a Jay Z fan then you are familiar with this lyric. From the beginning Jay Z set out to accomplish big things. He didn’t want to settle for just another average life, instead it was either all or nothing. He was going to create the life of his dreams. This is the amount of dedication and belief you need to possess. Don’t settle for anything related to mediocrity. Resort to new heights and claim greatness. Greatness only comes if you don’t stop at average.

“I’d rather die enormous than live dormant.”

This is yet another lyric from Jay Z that shows you how it was do or die. It was either greatness and a life of luxury or it was nothing. He wanted to go straight to the top of the world or it was the bottom of the ocean. Although he may have had tons of fear he sure didn’t show it. Most people today don’t make daring statements like this and instead of reaching the top they stay in the middle due to the threat of losing it all. This is the wrong mentality to have since in the end we do lose it all so we should challenge and see how far we can truly take it. If you do this and continue to challenge yourself and see how far you can go then this is what is going to make you great and not just another human being that lived and died.

“I will not lose, for even in defeat, there’s a valuable lesson learned, so it evens up for me.”

You can take away a lesson from any defeat and add it to your database. Build up your knowledge. With every defeat comes wisdom. Be thankful that you got a chance to experience something and most importantly learn something. The reason why Jay Z made it was because he didn’t stop even though he was met with tons of problems. Most of these problems would have kept the average man in despair and would have stopped him from continuing to chase his dreams, however not for Jay Z. If you take on this perspective you will be more inclined to not be afraid to make mistakes and you therefore will truly progress at this game of life.

“Remind yourself. Nobody built like you, you design yourself.”

You are unique. You ultimately decide how you are built like. Consider yourself a machine and everything you put in your body and everything you put in your mind is either building you up for success or destruction. You hold he power. You are a unique person. You design yourself.

“I’m not afraid of dying. I’m afraid of not trying”

Most people are so afraid of being embarrassed after they fail at something that it keeps them from trying at all. Instead they already consider themselves as being losers. What a wrong mentality to have. It’s better to give it your all and fail rather than not trying at all. Like I said with failure comes wisdom which you can use to try, try, and try again until you succeed.

“Difficult takes a day, impossible takes a week”

It seems as if people are quick to write off things as being impossible before they set out and try it. Maybe this is just a way to save them the embarrassment of failing. However since Jay Z learned at an early age that he had nothing to lose he put his best foot forth every day and set out to accomplish those tasks that others who thought they had something to lose were afraid of. By trying and trying you can easily accomplish those tasks that seem unbearable.
