If you want to succeed, you have to find comfort in being uncomfortable.
The greatest enemy to your future success is being in a state of comfort.
If you’re comfortable, you’re not going to reach your true potential.
Think about that.
The cost of being comfortable is the success you don’t achieve.
Everything that has been done, everyone that has gone on to be great lived in a state of discomfort. On this road to success, you cannot expect to be comfortable while chasing your dreams.
Instead you have to go out of your way to put yourself in uncomfortable situations. The reason for this is because in order to attract success, you have to be willing to do things that others aren’t. While others live in a state of comfort, you have to live in a state of discomfort. The person who lives in a state of discomfort is the person who goes on to succeed.
For instance, compare Kobe Bryant to a mediocre basketball player of your choice. It’s apparent that Kobe has gone on to become the greatest to possibly ever step foot on the court, whereas mediocre players have remained mediocre. There have been tons of players who have made it to the league, but have never gone on to reach their full potential.
So many people are put on a pedestal on draft day, however they are soon forgotten when it comes time to play ball.
Kobe came into the league when he was eighteen years old. He was a boy amongst men. It’s remarkable seeing what he has truly accomplished and all of this is credited to not only his talent, but his ability to put himself in a state of discomfort.
He’s simply willing to do what others aren’t. He’s willing to be the first one to show up to practice and be the last one to leave. He’s willing to devote his life to perfection. He’s willing to give the sport of basketball everything he has.
Although what you see on the court is made to look easy when Kobe does it, everything he does on the court is a reflection of his work when the lights are off and your TV is shut.
Kobe shines because he lives in a state of discomfort. Do you think it’s easy to wake up in the wee hours of the morning to go to practice? Do you think he’s comfortable? Do you think it’s easy to go for one more set when his muscles are crying out in pain? Do you think he’s comfortable doing that? Hell no. But he does it because he understands that growth occurs when you’re uncomfortable.
On the contrary, so many people stop when they get uncomfortable. They quit. They live in a state of comfort so once they do something outside their comfort zone; they get frightened and throw in the white towel.
These types of people can be described with one word, mediocre.
If you are unwilling to leave your comfort zone, you will never grow. You will never get to where you want to be.
You have to be willing to lead an uncomfortable life. Find comfort in being uncomfortable.
The things that are required in order to succeed require you to be uncomfortable because that’s how they will make you feel. Success isn’t going to come to you while you’re sitting on your ass. You have to go to it. You have to pursue it and you have to make it a reality. That alone involves you being uncomfortable.
Sometimes you will not want to wake up early. Sometimes you will not want to approach a potential prospect. Sometimes you will not want to do the things on your TO DO list because they’re big and scary and make you feel uncomfortable, but it’s the ability to muster down and actually get the damn thing done that is going to take you to new heights.
Find pleasure in being uncomfortable.
When you feel uncomfortable, smile…because you are heading down the right path.
If you’re comfortable, you’re heading towards mediocrity.
If you’re uncomfortable, you’re heading towards greatness.
Now ask yourself, up to now have you been living in a state of comfort or discomfort?
If you’re truthful with yourself, you should realize that the level of success you have achieved in your life is directly correlated with how uncomfortable you were.
If you find your life is not where you expected it to be, you probably have been living in a state of comfort. You’ve probably been too scared to leave that comfort zone of yours and that is why you have remained stagnant. While others had the balls to do away with their state of comfort, you clung to yours and that is why they have gone on to succeed, whereas you have remained in the same position.
However, the beauty of the situation is it’s not over. It’s not the end all be all. In fact, you’re still breathing and now you know one of the great secrets of success, what you decide to do with this knowledge is up to you and it will determine the quality of the rest of your life.
